I focus my practice mainly in the areas of insurance defense, insurance coverage, and commercial litigation. I enjoy practicing in these areas because they involve litigation, and that involves near constant interaction with clients and the courts. I find the ability to work with and around so many different people and institutions fascinating, and I enjoy working with others forming new relationships and connections.

Many areas of the law come into play during the litigation of any case, and I relish researching little known or used rules that can assist in achieving a desired outcome. The first thing I do when I approach a legal issue is clearly define the issues, since an issue can’t be resolved unless it is fully understood.  It then becomes necessary to develop all relevant facts, and it helps to put yourself in the shoes of the various parties in order to determine their motivations for doing what they did. Once I’ve considered all issues and facts, I evaluate the case in order to determine the best route to a favorable outcome for my client.

I have always been interested in the written word and problem solving, so becoming an attorney was the obvious path for me.  Further, I grew up in a small community where I knew many attorneys.  My admiration and respect for those individuals drove me to attend law school.   My experience as a law clerk in a trial court gives me a unique insight into how cases are approached from the other side of the bench; that knowledge has proven invaluable to my practice.

I come from a family of medical professionals, so I think the idea that each individual has a duty to help others was instilled in me from an early age.  An attorney’s job is really about helping people through difficult times in unfamiliar territory.  I thoroughly enjoy helping my clients wade through those waters. Litigation can be stressful to those who are unfamiliar with the process, and I feel it’s my duty to not just work hard on their behalf, but to help ease any anxiety they may have. I don’t want my clients to feel like they are just another name on a ‘to-do’ list, but rather that I put their interests first and keep them abreast of the status of their case. They can call me 24/7 and expect a prompt response.

Prior to joining McBrayer, I was an associate with Tooms & Dunaway, PLLC, in London, Kentucky, where I focused my practice on insurance defense. Prior to that, I clerked for the Hon. Gregory A. Lay of the circuit court for the 27th Judicial Circuit in Laurel and Knox counties.
