I became a lawyer because I felt it was the best way I could use my skills to help other people. I am a detail-oriented, driven person and an effective communicator. I enjoy using these skills to serve the community.
Healthcare law is fascinating to me in several different respects. First, healthcare law crosses over into so many other areas. Representing a client on healthcare-related matters often involves issues surrounding contracts, torts, employment, etc. The wide array of matters coming to our department is truly engaging. Second, healthcare law is highly dependent on regulations, and therefore is constantly changing. Changes to the law can quite literally occur overnight, which makes it critical to stay informed and educated on the changes in real time. The practice of healthcare law is not the same as it was yesterday, or the same as it will be tomorrow. The constant change and growth is what particularly drew me to this practice area.
Having chosen healthcare law early in my studies, I was able to get involved with the implementation of company policies related to compliance in healthcare matters in college and law school. I have enjoyed the opportunity to work for two different hospitals in areas relating to compliance, risk management, employment and education law. These opportunities were a wonderful beginning to my career in healthcare law because they taught me the intricacies and complexities involved in this practice area.
