Overview

Some of the most important characteristics of an intellectual property attorney are a genuine curiosity about their client's businesses and passions, as well as the knowledge of how to help them grow. Clients can expect to find these qualities in McBrayer Associate Ameena Khan Per.

Ameena practices within McBrayer’s intellectual property group, but her experience has led her to be a jack of many trades. She has experience in litigating commercial and healthcare matters as well as negotiating and drafting licenses, assignments, and other agreements. Ameena's practice also consists of other transactional work, such as contract review and negotiation of commercial agreements involving retail, healthcare industries, and energy and natural resources. She also practices in the privacy and data security area and advises clients on a variety of privacy matters, including compliance with privacy and data security laws and drafting privacy policies. She has hands-on experience with technology-related issues, which brings a unique and vital perspective in successfully negotiating agreements involving personal data and developing creative governance solutions that blend well with existing business practices.

Ameena values staying mindful of client costs while gaining insight into their needs and providing a great work product, and she is comfortable using innovative methods to communicate and meet with clients. Professionally, Ameena is an active member of the American Health Law Society and the Kentucky Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and Intellectual Property Group.

Capabilities, Successes, and Assignments:

  • Develops strategies for the protection and enforcement of intellectual property for companies.
  • Conducts clearance searches for potential trademarks and advises on use and registrability of marks.
  • Reviews and negotiates supply chain agreements for a gas, transmission, and pipeline group (commercial agreements).
  • Drafts assignments, licenses, and coexistence agreements involving intellectual property assets.
  • Advises clients on compliance requirements under various comprehensive data privacy laws, federal privacy regulations, along with state laws governing personally identifiable information.
  • Provides regulatory analysis, security incident response, risk management, policy development, training, and audits that enable her clients to stay on top of evolving privacy laws
  • Drafts privacy policies and other consumer website policies
  • Acted as outside counsel to major university medical center
