Mitchel Denham is a Member of McBrayer PLLC in the firm's Louisville office. He advises businesses, healthcare organizations, government entities, and employers on complex regulatory matters, general civil litigation, government enforcement, and Constitutional issues. Drawing on extensive experience in both public service and private practice, Mitchel helps clients navigate high-stakes legal challenges, manage risk, and achieve business objectives. 

Before joining McBrayer, Mitchel served as the Assistant Deputy Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, where he worked closely with the Attorney General and supervised every division of the office. During his tenure, he also served as the Executive Director of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, Acting Director of the Office of Special Prosecutions, and Acting Director of the Office of Victims Advocacy. He helped lead the Commonwealth’s efforts in securing several multi-million-dollar settlements involving pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers, and directed litigation involving significant constitutional and policy issues. Earlier in his career, he served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, prosecuting public corruption, organized crime, gang activity, and other felony offenses. 

Today, Mitchel represents clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small business owners, healthcare providers, political campaigns, and government entities. He regularly appears before administrative agencies, state and federal courts, including the Kentucky Supreme Court. He has also appeared before the United States Supreme Court. Whether advising clients behind the scenes, defending enforcement actions, or litigating complex disputes, Mitchel draws on his broad experience grounded in decades of courtroom and government experience to provide strategic counsel. 

 Committed to serving Kentucky beyond his legal practice, Mitchel was appointed by Governor Andy Beshear to the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees in 2026. The Board of Trustees governs the University in all matters affecting the institution and exercises jurisdiction over the institution's financial, educational, and other policies and its relationship with state and federal governments. Mitchel is an elected member of the OneLouisville Board of Directors, the economic development organization and regional chamber of commerce for Louisville. Previously, in 2020, Governor Beshear appointed Mitchel to the Board of Directors for the Louisville Regional Airport Authority, which governs Muhammad Ali International Airport, the largest cargo airport in North America, and Bowman Field. Governor Beshear also appointed Mitchel to the Kentucky Personnel Board, where he currently serves as its Chair. Mitchel also served 12 years as a Member and Treasurer for the Norton Children’s Hospital Foundation. Mitchel is a graduate of Leadership Kentucky (2019) and Leadership Louisville’s Bingham Fellows (2024). In 2012, he was recognized as part of Louisville Business First's 40 Under Forty class. 

Mitchel grew up in Maysville, Kentucky, and is a proud alumnus of Mason County High School, Centre College, and the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law. He lives in Louisville with his wife and three children, and in his spare time, he helps coach his daughter’s basketball team.
